Audio Amp Take Two
![]()
OK, audio amplifiers are proving a bit temperamental... but I believe in sticking to things, especially where a good idea is involved. I bought a kit from Jameco that had all the parts included and a very small circuit board. My First lesson in soldering small boards proved that I need better skills. After all of the soldering I discovered that the kit was not working. So I took it under the magnifying glass and resoldered some of the connections that looked a bit... well, FLAKEY.
The second time the amplifier worked, it worked really great... for about two minutes, then crapped out again. Tom's admonishment that breadboard versions of amplifiers don't work very well and that they have to be put together quite well to yield any sound is proving quite true.
Below is the circuit for the amplifier, which is a bit more involved than the one in the Physical Computing notes. I did notice that before this kit stopped working the sound was better than the other simpler one. So as far as circuits are involved, more complicated can mean better.
